When I saw the billboards for the series last year I thought for sure that it was going to be terrible, unwatchable, and completely hoaky to the nth degree. I've read part of the book series that the TV series is based off of and I was afraid that it wouldn't adapt well. I'm not a hard core fan so I'm not all that disturbed by the differences between the two. I've never had much of a problem with the changes made from book to film, I come at it from the understanding that it is necessary to adapt stories between the two. I know the hardcore fans cannot stomach the changes and cannot see the merits. Granted, sometimes the adaptations are done poorly and lose completely core concepts of the original and the loathing of these adaptations is completely merited. But sometimes the changes reinvigorate the original instead of rotely copying it.
As adaptations go I am thoroughly enjoying Legend of the Seeker. Its great to see a high fantasy done well on film. Its hard for me to believe a major network took such a risk.
My favorite part is the portrayal of strong women. Kahlan the leading female is equally as powerful as the leading man. She fights with two daggers, or whatever she can get from the enemy and she fights just as well as the guy with the magic sword without the aid of magic. It's pretty awesome.
