I really liked No Country For Old Men. The title fits perfectly. Its not a movie for old men either.
The movie theater was filled with retirees out so see this movie that just won the Oscar for Best Picture. Once the movie was over I heard lots of grumbling about the movie. "They didn't get it." "It wasn't any good." "The end didn't make sense."
Just because you didn't like a movie doesn't make it bad. You should figure that if a movie won an Oscar these days its probably not going to be entertainment. It was brilliant. The dialog was great without sounding like it was trying to be cool. (see Juno) The characters were wonderful. The acting was amazing. The set design was engrossing. Did it have a happy ending? Are you kidding me? It would have ruined the movie. There is no real wrapping up of the plot, but life's plots don't resolve themselves either. It just ends. I was surprised when it ended where it ended. It was brilliant. Brilliant where THERE WILL BE BLOOD was pretentious and Sweeney Todd was boring. (you could reverse pretentious and boring in that last sentence as far as I'm concerned.)
I loved the movie and I think it defiantly deserved the Oscar. Not that I would recommend it for a fun day at the movies. If you want that go see Juno.
